Pues sí, ya ha pasado un mes desde que acabó el Sínodo'2023 (su Asamblea de octubre de 2023, para ser más exactos). Todo un mes de descanso, de retomar energías, de repensar qué se puede hacer, por dónde va a seguir el camino, por dónde debería seguir. 

La verdad es que acabó aquella sesión con un cierto desconcierto, tanto respecto a lo hecho, como a lo que se debería continuar haciendo. Respecto a lo hecho, porque los sentimientos de los participantes y de los observadores de fuera no podían ser más dispares: hubo de todo; desde los francamente desilusionados y decepcionados (por la falta de conclusiones operativas, por la consigna de repensar una vez más lo que ya se va posponiendo demasiadas veces, por la lentitud de la famosa metodología de la «conversación en el Espíritu»...), hasta los más fieles y esperanzados, que no cesaban de insistir en que «así son las cosas», que «necesitamos dar más tiempo», que «las decisiones serán el año que viene»...), sin contar a los también muchos que ni habían dado seguimiento en la información general a este acontecimiento sinodal: ya no les interesa, no creen que la Iglesia pueda cambiar realmente. 

Del desconcierto también formaba parte el hecho de que nadie parecía saber por dónde iba a seguir el camino. ¿Aquella declaración final era realmente «final», o lo era «sólo por ahora», a la espera de una nueva Asamblea de decisiones, la de 2024? ¿O aquella declaración final estaba destinada a «volver a las bases» de las comunidades y grupos sinodales que quisieran perseverar en el trabajo sinodal? La verdad es que en los primeros días y semanas, nadie lo sabía. Ni siquiera los mismos participantes. Hubo que preguntarles, y ellos debieron preguntar más arriba, porque nadie parecía saber. 

Poco a poco, parece que han ido bajando de arriba orientaciones. Dicen que se confirma que aquella declaración final deberá volver a las bases, y deberán ser puestas en marcha las iniciativas factibles, preparando las cosas para que en octubre de 2024, en la próxima Asamblea de este unitario proceso sinodal multi-sesión, la tal Asamblea tome la decisión de «tomar decisiones» por fin (algo que en la pasada sesión de 2023 ha sido cuidadosamente «contenido» por las instrucciones llegadas desde más adentro de la Sala del Sínodo

Desde el 30 de octubre pasado, al 1º de octubre próximo (de 2024) sólo van 11 meses. Si este mes de noviembre ha sido un mes de viajes de vuelta, de viajes para informar, de espera de directrices... ya son sólo 10 meses los que quedan. Y si quieren, como se dice, que las aportaciones que se hagan para la nueva Asamblea del Sínodo estén en el Vaticano dos meses antes (antes de la nueva sesión y antes del «ferragosto» italiano), es claro que ya quedan sólo 8 meses de posible trabajo. Y si tenemos en cuenta las vacaciones de Navidad y las de Pascua... podemos decir que, en limpio, no se sacarán más de 7 meses de trabajo. Muy poco tiempo para preparar una «Asamblea de decisiones». (Aunque sean decisiones de un organismo meramente «consultivo», que lo único que puede hacer es formular unos consejos al Papa -que nadie piense que no estamos todavía en la plena sumisión tradicional... Comentaremos). 

Y es poco tiempo, porque tampoco están hechos los textos de las proposiciones o propuestas a ser consideradas para su aprobación, ni siquiera están claros los temas que «están sobre la mesa»... Se ha solido citar unos cuantos, pero todos dicen que hay o había otros, que han ido siendo sacados de la mesa sigilosamente y sin preguntar a la Asamblea... O sea, parece estar un tanto verde la cosa, faltando solamente ocho meses...

¿Qué hacer? Pues yo tampoco lo sé, pero me parece que sería bueno «ponernos las pilas». Porque el momento que se vive en la Iglesia católica en trance de sinodalidad es bien interesante. Y sí, podría merecer la pena. Puede ser una oportunidad, una gran oportunidad. ¿Una última oportunidad? Pues a mí personalmente (aunque no soy ningún visionario) me parece que en cierto sentido sí: puede ser una última oportunidad. 

Lo dicho: pasado ya un mes de descanso, y faltando ya sólo ocho meses para tomar decisiones, qué bueno sería que nos pusiéramos a trabajar para aprovechar esta (¿última?) oportunidad. Nosotros, Servicios Koinonía, vamos a ponernos las pilas, sí. Y os ofrecemos este espacio de inspiración y creatividad, desde «fuera de la caja». Vamos para allá.

     Yes, a month has already passed since the end of Synod '2023 (its October 2023 Assembly, to be more precise). A whole month of rest, of regaining energies, of rethinking what can be done, where the road will go, where it should go.

     The truth is that that session ended with a certain bewilderment, both with regard to what had been done and what should continue to be done. Regarding what has been done, because the feelings of the participants and of the outside observers could not have been more disparate: there was everything from the frankly disillusioned and disappointed (by the lack of operative conclusions, by the slogan to rethink once again what has already been postponed too many times, by the slowness of the famous methodology of the "conversation in the Spirit"...), to the most faithful ones, from the most disillusioned and disappointed (by the lack of operative conclusions, by the slogan to rethink once again what has already been postponed too many times, by the slowness of the famous methodology of the "conversation in the Spirit. ...), to the most faithful and hopeful, who kept insisting that "this is the way things are", that "we need to give more time", that "the decisions will be made next year"...), without counting the many who had not even followed this synodal event in the general information: they are no longer interested, they do not believe that the Church can really change.

     Part of the bewilderment was also the fact that no one seemed to know where to go from here. Was that final declaration really "final", or was it "only for now", awaiting a new Assembly of decisions, that of 2024? Or was that final declaration destined to "go back to the basics" of the communities and synodal groups that wanted to persevere in the synodal work? The truth is that in the first days and weeks, no one knew. Not even the participants themselves. They had to be asked, and they must have asked higher up, because no one seemed to know.

     Little by little, it seems that they have been coming down from above. They say that it is confirmed that the final declaration will have to go back to the basics, and the feasible initiatives will have to be implemented, preparing things so that in October 2024, in the next Assembly of this unitary multi-session synodal process, the Assembly will finally decide to "make decisions" (something that in the last session of 2023 was carefully "contained" by the instructions coming from further inside the Synod Hall), and that the Synod will be able to "make decisions" (something that in the last session of 2023 was carefully "contained" by the instructions coming from further inside the Synod Hall).

     From last October 30 to next October 1 (of 2024) only 11 months have passed. If this month of November has been a month of return trips, of trips to inform, of waiting for directives... there are only 10 months left. And if they want, as they say, that the contributions to be made for the new Assembly of the Synod be in the Vatican two months before (before the new session and before the Italian "ferragosto"), it is clear that there are only 8 months of possible work left. And if we take into account the Christmas and Easter vacations... we can say that, all in all, there will not be more than 7 months of work. Very little time to prepare a "Assembly of decisions".

     And it is little time, because the texts of the propositions or proposals to be considered for approval are not ready either, not even the topics "on the table" are clear.... A few have been mentioned, but everyone says that there are or were others, which have been taken off the table stealthily and without asking the Assembly? In other words, things seem to be a bit green, with only eight months to go?

     What to do? Well, I don't know either, but it seems to me that it would be good to "get our act together". Because the moment we are living in the Catholic Church in the process of synodality is very interesting. And yes, it could be worthwhile. It could be an opportunity, a great opportunity. A last chance? Well, for me personally (although I am no visionary) it seems to me that in a certain sense yes: it could be a last chance.

     As I said: after a month of rest, and with only eight months left to make decisions, how good it would be if we could get to work to take advantage of this (last?) opportunity.
